Mannie Fresh, born Byron O. Thomas was born and raised in New Orleans. He got his start in music at a young age when he learned how to play the keyboard. He later became a DJ in 1984 at the age of 10 with the hip hop group New York Inc. He started to DJ at legendary parties and soon got the attention of rapper Gregory D.
