ace 16+ PureContro green Manchester City and Arsenal shared the spoils in Manuel Pellegrini's final home game as the Gunners twice came from behind in a 2-2 draw, a result that keeps the Gunners in the hunt for second spot but leaves a top-four finish out of City's hands.

tiem... legend vi black Pellegrini, who will make way for Pep Guardiola at the conclusion of this campaign, saw his men take the lead through Sergio Aguero early on, only for Arsenal to hit back straight away through Olivier Giroud's header from a corner.

Kevin De Bruyne restored City's lead in the second half with a perfectly-placed finish beyond Petr Cech after the Belgian had picked up the ball and drove from near halfway.

However, Alexis Sanchez fired in another leveller when collecting a brilliant return pass from Giroud to virtually guarantee Arsenal a place in next season's Champions League.

City will be looking nervously over their shoulder, though, as they only hold a two-point advantage over Manchester United, who have a game in hand at West Ham in midweek and will finish fourth if they win there and at home to Bournemouth on the final day.

Arsenal did fail to move level on points with Tottenham as their north London rivals' miserable week continued with a 2-1 loss to Southampton at White Hart Lane earlier in the day.

Six days after seeing their title dream end at Stamford Bridge, Spurs once again went ahead through Son Heung-min as the South Korean rounded Fraser Forster before finishing in the first half.

However, Northern Ireland captain Steven Davis claimed a rare brace either side of the break, with both goals set up by Dusan Tadic, as Saints moved into sixth to maintain their impressive end-of-season form.

Spurs will need a point at Newcastle on the final day to finish above their local rivals if Arsenal beat Aston Villa at home.

Elsewhere, a much-changed Liverpool side defeated Watford 2-0 at Anfield.

The Reds qualified for the Europa League final with victory over Villarreal at the same venue three days earlier and Joe Allen, one of those brought into the starting line-up for this fixture, broke the deadlock.

Roberto Firmino then came off the bench and wrapped up the victory with a second goal with 14 minutes remaining.
