About Definitive Jux
Definitive Jux is an independent record label based in New York City, United States. It was co-founded in 1999 by Jaime Meline and Amaechi Uzoigwe. The label focuses on hip hop music that's often perceived as more artistic than the hip hop music released on major labels. The label was initially known simply as Def Jux, but in 2001 popular hip hop label Def Jam sued Def Jux over the name similarity. This lawsuit was settled out of court and the name was officially changed to Definitive Jux. The label is still commonly referred to as Def Jux by fans. Members of the Definitive Jux roster are affectionately known as Def Jukies or Jukies. Roster members include the likes of Aesop Rock, El-P, Del tha Funkee Homosapien, Dizzee Rascal, and Rob Sonic.
